Travelling
to Mull by Road
The shortest route for those coming by car from the south is either
by the M6/A74/M8/A82 to Crianlarich and Oban, or via Stirling and Callander
to Crianlarich if travelling from the east coast. Whether you reach Oban
by road or rail, the next stage is to take the car ferry to Craignure.
Alternatively,
coming by way of Glencoe, Ballachulish Bridge and Corran Ferry, you can
use the Lochaline - Fishnish car ferry: since this cannot be booked, at
busy times you should not travel too late in the day. Timetables and other
information can be obtained from Caledonian MacBrayne (Oban), Telephone
01631 562285. If you plan to take your car onto the Oban - Craignure ferry
you should book both ways during the summer.
Which
ever route you take towards Scotland's beautiful west coast you will pass
through some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain. In order to give
us time to prepare for new visitors, we normally ask that departures should
not be later than 10am and arrival at the property not earlier than 4pm
Saturday .
If
you are travelling from Oban to Craignure the you should turn right off
the ferry linkspan and head towards Salen and Tobermory. If you are travelling
on the Lochaline to Fishnish ferry you should travel up the ferry road
to the T junction and then make a right turn towards Salen and Tobermory.
Having
turned right you will eventually arrive at a village named Salen travel
straight through the village towards Tobermory and in about half a mile
you will be travelling alongside the river inlet with the water on your
right. After about 500 mtrs the road goes sharp right over a bridge towards
Tobermory and there is another road that goes straight on.
You should follow the road that goes straight ahead at the bridge. It is
signposted for Dervaig. This road is eleven miles long and as you come to the
far end of the Glen on the edge of Dervaig you will see a white farm house on
your right. Pass the track for the farm and 2 further tracks on the right. 100
yards after all these tracks you will see the cottage on the right with a blue
wooden fence. Parking is directly opposite the cottage on a purpose made area.
